Getting Started with the Proroute H685 4G Router

The Proroute H685 is equipped with an upgraded processor and a streamlined web interface, making setup and ongoing management efficient and intuitive.

While a setup video is currently in development, the following guide outlines the essential steps to get your router online securely and reliably.

Initial Setup Overview

Core Setup Parameters:

  1. Update to latest Firmware level from the Proroute website (System > Upgrade).
  2. Change the default admin password to secure the router WEB Interface. (System > Password).
  3. Configure your mobile network APN for internet access. (Network > Mobile > APN / Authentication Method / Username / Password.)
  4. Set up Wi-Fi security unique strong password, or disabling Wi-Fi if not required. (Network > Wi-Fi).
  5. (Only if needed). Configure port forwarding for remote access to LAN devices. (Network > Firewall > Port Forwards).
  6. Either Remove or Activate remote administration with appropriate restrictions. (Network > Firewall > Security > SSH / Telnet / HTTP / HTTPS). – Default is Deny connections on Telnet and SSH from WAN – This is highly recommended.
  7. Use ping reboot / ICMP check to enable router to automatically reconnect to the mobile network/ Internet in case of a disconnection, maintaining uptime. (Services > ICMP Check > Enable). – Highly recommended for remote sites.

Default Access Details

To access the router’s web interface:

  • Router IP Address192.168.8.1
  • Usernameadmin
  • PasswordUnique to each router (printed on the label)
  • Wi-Fi Passwordm2mrouter168!!!

Important: Change both the admin and Wi-Fi passwords during initial setup to prevent unauthorized access.

Security Best Practices

To protect your router and network when using a Fixed Public IP SIM:

  • Limit Login Attempts: Configure the router to block IPs after repeated failed login attempts (e.g., 10 tries, 60-minute lockout).
(Settings: Network > Firewall > Security > HTTP > Enable lock account).
  • Restrict Remote Access: Only enable remote admin if necessary, and limit access to trusted IP addresses.
  • Use Strong Passwords: Avoid default or simple passwords for both admin and Wi-Fi access.
  • Disable Unused Services: Turn off Telnet, FTP, or other services not in use.
  • Enable the Firewall: Ensure the firewall is active and only required ports are open.
  • Use VPN Where Possible: For secure remote access, consider using VPN instead of direct port forwarding.
  • Keep Firmware Updated: Regularly check for and apply firmware updates to patch vulnerabilities.
